FORT RAMON MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija – A Full Military Honors was rendered Thursday to the newly-promoted  Commander, 7th Infantry Division,  Major General Gregorio Pio P Catapang Jr., for his well  deserved  promotion into the next higher rank.

President Aquino approved the promotion of  General Catapang Jr. to Major General, a two star rank, effective February 09, 2013.

Personnel of the 7ID, officers, men, women and civilian employees of the Command conveyed and shared jubilation on this most joyous moment as he takes another step up on the ladder of his military career.  Honors held at     Headquarters, 7ID on February 21, 2013.

A recipient of three Gold Cross medals for bravery, Maj. Gen Catapang Jr is a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Dimalupig” Class of 1981 and is considered as one of the youngest among his “mistahs”.

Newsmen covering here described Gen. Catapang as “future Chief of Staff of AFP.”

Catapang is the 21st Commander who assumed the position as the Commanding General of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division.

Some of his professional military training here and abroad includes the following:  Intel Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer Advance Course, Command and General Staff Course, Australian and Military Familiarization Course and ADC Preparation Course at Defense International Training Center in Australia.

Defense and Strategic Studies Course at the Australian Defense College, Symposium on National Security and Strategy at NDU, PLA, China and Change Management  Workshop and Strategic Communications at the Australian Defense Cooperative Program.

As a dynamic and aggressive officer, he moved on with his career carrying excellent standard of performance, fine leadership and keen vision that resulted in remarkable accomplishment in both of his garrison and field tours of duty.

Prior to his assumption of post as 7th Infantry Division Commander, his significant assignments and positions were: Commander of 703rd Infantry Brigade;  Battalion Commander, Operations Officer, Civil Military Operations Officer, Operations Officer,  and Chief of Staff of Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) in Camp Servillano Aquino, Tarlac.

His remarkable accomplishments with his strong desire for excellent service has become more evident by the rewards, commendations and decorations he received among  which were: Military Merit Medals and numerous Military Commendations, Letters of Commendations and badges.

He is also a recipient of three Gold Cross Medals, one Bronze Cross Medals, five Outstanding Achievement Medals and two Distinguished Service Star Awards and three Combat “Kagitingan” Badges.

Maj Gen Catapang expressed his deepest gratitude to the Officers, men and civilian employee of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division for the military honors rendered to him during his first step at the Division with his two star rank.

“Our vision for this Command and this camp is on its way to realization. With everybody’s cooperation, we can and we will realize what we dream.” Maj. Gen. Catapang said.

“With this milestone in my career, I hope to drive this Command to heights of mission accomplishment and inspire each of our soldiers to do more so that we can achieve our objectives,” he added.-Mar T Supnad
